Food for the soul

As promised, here are the remaining pics I took this weekend, at various spots along the Midlands Meander.

Below: Lunch at The Bierfassl

View of the picturesque Gowrie Farm Golf Estate across the road from The Bierfassl

Below: At Rawdons Hotel, where we were upgraded to an awesome upstairs suite, with two huge bedrooms, a full bathroom, a separate TV lounge, and a stunning view to boot.

Below: The Nottingham Road Brewing Company (SA's most successful micro-brewery)

Below: The Capture Site - one of the newest tourist attractions in the area. A humbling experience and well worth the visit. Highly recommended for locals and foreigners alike.

Capture, by local artist Marco Cianfanelli. 10m tall op art sculpture comprising 50 laser-cut steel columns, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Madiba's capture by the Apartheid police, and his subsequent disappearance from public view for the next 27 years.

The columns have been spray-painted with a black etch primer, which will fade after two years, turning the steel a deep rust colour.

For more info on this remarkable piece, check out the artist's website.

This is bat, er, horse country

Below is a bunch of my favourite shots taken on Saturday, at Lee's cousin Tarryn's betrothal to her beau Manoli. Both the ceremony and reception took place at Hartford House on Summerhill stud in the Natal Midlands. Besides the exquisite setting and scenery, I think the two things that stood out for me personally were the outstanding food - definitely one of the best meals I've ever had - and the fact that, in the almost 19 years I've known Tarryn (I met her when she was just 11, shortly after Lee and I started going out in 1994), I have honestly never seen her more relaxed and happy. A stunning and truly memorable occasion indeed!

Op art frock from Topshop and studded heels from Zara, both in Sandton City

Goran  was on his best behaviour for the role of page boy, accompanied by Lee's sister Kim, who was one of the bridesmaids.

The rest of the pics I took over the course of the weekend will follow in a new blog post over the next day or two.
