Time To Move On

Haus Gruben is up for sale! Yip, we have finally decided to move closer to Goran's school in Houghton and Lee's work in Wynberg. The plan is to sell up here in Northcliff, and rent a lock-up-and-go apartment for a couple of years in Killarney, to get a better feel for that side of town, before possibly buying again. Click here for the official listing on the estate agent's website. And please feel free to share this post with anyone you know who may be in the market for a new home, or investment property (Airbnb, corporate housing, etc.)

It is a 1,100 square metre corner stand (only one neighbour), with a panoramic view of the Jozi city skyline. There are 200 square metres under roof (all rooms are double volume), including two bedrooms and two bathrooms (both en-suite), and the double garage with a huge mezzanine, which can be used for storage or converted to a loft room. There is an enormous wrap-around patio with deck extension and built-in braai under cover. The pool area is very private. The scullery has a double sink and space for a dishwasher. The laundry area in the garage has connections for a washing machine and a tumble dryer. The large courtyard has wash-lines and space for Pikitup bins. There are external security beams around the entire property; the house alarm is linked to our neighbourhood's outstanding armed response company. There is a generator. There is an ADSL connection; high speed fibre internet is due at the end of January. The garage doors and driveway gate are all automated. There is underfloor heating, and solar panels to heat the pool. The safety nets for the pool and pond can stay, as can the koi fish. There is irrigation to the (mostly) indigenous garden; the twice weekly gardener can stay. There is a weekly garden refuse removal service in place. Foundations have been approved for a double storey. There is plenty of space to extend. The driveway can accommodate eight cars - it really is an entertainer's dream!

We have been here 10 years now. We designed and built the place from scratch, on an old tennis court on a sub-divided stand. Our architect Mark van Katwijk oversaw the build in 2007, and Badec Bros finished our landscaping in 2010. A LOT of love has gone into this project, and we are extremely sad to let it go. But it's time for a new adventure.
